Austin’s rapid growth has led to the opening of a new women’s hospital by Ascension Seton. The $362 million, 325,000-square-foot facility is connected to the existing Ascension Seton Medical Center and will begin accepting patients on June 29.
Meeting the Community’s Needs
The new hospital is designed to handle 7,500 to 8,500 births a year, up from roughly 6,000 in 2024, and nearly doubles the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) capacity. The facility features a 24/7 women’s emergency department, 20 standard labor and delivery rooms, and six low-intervention birth suites with soaking tubs.
The hospital also includes a Ronald McDonald Family Room, a meditation room, and a 24-hour grab-and-go market. Building signage is bilingual in English and Spanish, and the hospital is committed to providing translation services and cultural accommodations for all patients.
Expanding Care
The new facility will allow women to receive specialized care without having to leave the city. The hospital can treat a spectrum of maternal and fetal needs, with Dell Children’s neonatologists staffing the NICU around the clock and a transfer pathway in place for cases requiring higher-acuity care.
The NICU has been redesigned to feature private rooms, allowing mothers to stay with their babies and preventing physical separation. Parents who cannot be present can monitor their babies remotely through AngelEye cameras installed in each room.
