Auburn Hills man arrested after shooting injures two at Pontiac youth football game

Oakland County Sheriff’s Office announced Sunday that a 37‑year‑old man from Auburn Hills was taken into custody in connection with a shooting that occurred during a youth football game at Wisner Stadium in Pontiac.

Incident details

At just after 1 p.m., officers responded to reports of gunfire at the stadium. When they arrived, they found a 19‑year‑old male victim with a gunshot wound to the buttock and a 27‑year‑old female victim with a gunshot wound to the head. Both injuries were caused by a handgun, according to the deputies.

Witnesses identified a man walking away from the scene. Deputies located the suspect and recovered a loaded 9 mm handgun from his person. The weapon’s shell casings were also found during a sweep of the area.

Arrest and charges

The suspect was arrested on the spot and transported to the Oakland County Jail. Police noted that the individual possessed a valid concealed pistol license and that the recovered handgun was registered in his name.

The 19‑year‑old male victim received medical treatment for non‑life‑threatening injuries and was released from the hospital later that evening. The 27‑year‑old female victim’s condition was also reported as stable after receiving care.

Law‑enforcement response

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard condemned the act, stating, “Taking a personal conflict and escalating it to shooting them is never acceptable. Even worse, doing it at an unrelated youth event. I look forward to the suspect being held fully accountable.” The sheriff’s office emphasized its commitment to protecting families and community events from violence.

Investigators continue to gather evidence, and the case remains open pending further review.

Community impact

The shooting has raised concerns among parents and local residents who attend youth sports events. Community leaders are urging families to remain vigilant and to cooperate fully with law‑enforcement officials as the investigation proceeds.

Officials reminded the public that concealed pistol licenses are issued only to individuals who meet strict legal criteria, and that any misuse of a legally owned firearm will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
