Attorney for Lindsay Clancy says he’s open to plea deal after mistrial in Plymouth County

In a development that directly affects families in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, the attorney representing Lindsay Clancy signaled Tuesday that he is prepared to discuss a plea deal with the district attorney. Kevin Reddington said he hopes District Attorney Tim Cruz will “revisit” the case now that a mistrial was declared after jurors could not reach a unanimous verdict.

Mistrial details

Judge William Sullivan announced the mistrial on Friday, noting an alleged 11‑1 split among jurors. Reddington argued that the lone holdout juror expressed doubt but failed to apply the judge’s instructions on reasonable doubt, a point he believes undermines the integrity of the verdict.

Attorney’s willingness to negotiate

During an interview on “Good Morning America,” Reddington said, “I’m willing to listen to Tim. I’ve known Tim for 30 years. He’s a very hard‑charging prosecutor. I hope, after sitting through this trial and seeing the evidence, that he would revisit the issue and work something out that is acceptable to both sides.” He added that earlier statements suggesting no plea bargaining were made before the trial concluded.

Appeal to President Trump

Reddington also addressed President Donald Trump, requesting a potential pardon for Clancy. He emphasized her personal hardships and character, asking the President to consider clemency. Legal experts clarified that the President lacks authority to pardon a case being tried in a state court, underscoring the limits of federal executive power in state criminal matters.

Family’s response to public scrutiny

Patrick Clancy’s attorney, Howard Cooper, issued a statement condemning what he described as a “relentless, escalating and destructive defamation campaign” targeting the Clancy family. Cooper blamed minor celebrities, social‑media influencers, and conspiracy theorists for spreading false claims that Patrick was involved in the deaths of his children.

“Enough is enough—this spread of blatant and baseless falsehoods must stop,” Cooper said. “Those responsible should understand that there will be consequences, and every appropriate measure will be pursued to hold them accountable, including legally. Law enforcement has been notified.”

Next steps

While DA Cruz has not yet indicated his position following the mistrial, Judge Sullivan scheduled a status hearing for September 29 to determine the case’s future direction. The hearing will likely address whether a retrial will be pursued, a plea agreement reached, or the matter dismissed.

The Clancy case continues to draw national attention, not only because of the tragic loss of three young children but also due to the broader conversation about criminal justice, the role of juries, and the limits of executive clemency. Local residents remain hopeful for a resolution that honors the memory of the children while providing closure for the family.
