Shreveport police responded early Monday to an attempted theft of an automated teller machine at Campus Federal Credit Union, located at 1555 East 70th Street. Investigators say a pickup truck and heavy chains were used in an effort to pull the machine away from the building.

According to Corporal Chris Bordelon, the suspects were unable to free the ATM and abandoned both the device and the truck. The pickup was later towed after it was reported stolen. The ATM was removed for processing to ensure it had not suffered further damage.

Investigation underway

Bordelon said officers are collecting evidence from the abandoned vehicle and the ATM itself. DNA samples and video footage from the credit union’s security cameras are being examined in hopes of identifying the individuals responsible. “They were not successful today. However, they did cause damage to the ATM,” Bordelon said.

Police believe the suspects may already be known to law enforcement and could have been involved in similar incidents in the past. No cash was taken from the machine during the attempted theft.

Credit union officials thanked the police for their swift response and urged anyone with information to contact the Shreveport Police Department at 318‑673‑7300. The incident highlights the importance of vigilant security measures at financial institutions and the ongoing need for community cooperation with law‑enforcement efforts.

While the ATM was temporarily out of service, Campus Federal Credit Union worked to minimize disruption for its members, ensuring alternative banking options remained available.
