Atlantic City families celebrate Labor Day on beach and boardwalk

Atlantic City, N.J. – As Labor Day weekend drew to a close, families from across the Delaware Valley converged on the city’s famous beach and boardwalk for one last summer celebration. The tradition of gathering at the shore before school resumes was evident in the smiles of parents and children alike.

Beach fun and sandcastle building

“It was absolutely beautiful,” said Miranda Faroni of Roxborough, who spent the day with her family building sandcastles. “We got new buckets and the water was a little rough, but it was fun.” The Atlantic City shoreline offered plenty of space for kids to play, while the gentle surf provided a refreshing break from the heat.

Boardwalk strolls and local flavors

Visitors also took advantage of the iconic boardwalk. “Just enjoy the boards and enjoy the lovely weather,” remarked Ruth Stevens Duncker of Williamstown as she walked past classic arcade games and food stands. Shoppers sampled traditional shore staples such as funnel cakes, saltwater taffy and fresh seafood, adding to the festive atmosphere.

Traffic tips for the homeward journey

As the holiday weekend ended, many families prepared for the drive home, hoping to avoid the usual congestion. “I thought it was going to be really busy for Labor Day, but I feel it’s OK,” said Van Truong of South Philadelphia. Aerial footage from Chopper 6 showed only minor slow‑downs on northbound Route 42.

Longtime Atlantic City resident Jane Baumgardner of Berwyn offered a courteous reminder: “There’s always little jams getting onto the AC Expressway, but it evens out, and if people just be civil and don’t pass and get there quicker, it makes it better for all of us.” Her advice reflects the community spirit that many families appreciated during the holiday.

Kids enjoy a stress‑free ride

For younger travelers, the trip home was a breeze. “I don’t really care about traffic,” one boy said, while another child simply announced, “I’m going to take a nap.” Their relaxed attitudes underscored the overall sense of calm that accompanied the final day of summer.

Atlantic City’s Labor Day tradition continues to draw families seeking a blend of seaside recreation, boardwalk nostalgia and a friendly, family‑focused environment. As the city prepares for the upcoming fall season, local businesses look forward to welcoming visitors for upcoming events and festivals.
