Atlanta Falcons donate $25,000 to Indiana flood relief effort

The Atlanta Falcons announced Saturday that they are donating $25,000 to support Indiana flood victims. The contribution, made through the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, will be directed to the American Red Cross, the organization handling much of the disaster response.

Local partnership and recent activities

Earlier this week the Falcons spent several days in Indiana for joint practice sessions with the Indianapolis Colts at Grand Park in Westfield. The presence of the two NFL franchises highlighted a growing collaboration between professional sports teams and the Hoosier community.

In addition to the Falcons’ gift, the Colts and Pacers Sports & Entertainment have already pledged $250,000 to the American Red Cross for flood relief. Local media outlets FOX59, CBS4, Radio One and retailer Kroger have also joined the effort, launching the “Help in the Heartland” campaign to raise additional funds for those affected.

Impact of the flooding

Since August 11, Indiana has endured multiple rounds of severe weather, including heavy rain, strong winds, tornadoes and widespread flooding. The storm system has inundated homes, damaged infrastructure and displaced dozens of families across the state. Emergency responders and volunteers have been working around the clock to provide shelter, food and medical assistance.

The American Red Cross, the designated recipient of the Falcons’ donation, is coordinating shelter operations, distributing emergency supplies and assisting families with recovery plans. The additional $25,000 will help expand these services, ensuring that more residents receive timely aid.

Community response

Local officials praised the contributions from the Falcons and other partners, noting that private‑sector generosity is essential for bridging gaps in disaster relief funding. Mayor of Westfield, Greg Hargis, said, “When national teams like the Falcons step up to help our neighbors, it reinforces the spirit of community that Indiana is known for.”

Residents who have benefited from the Red Cross shelters expressed gratitude for the swift assistance. “We were scared when the water rose, but the help we’ve received has been a blessing,” said one homeowner who asked to remain anonymous.

Looking ahead

As recovery efforts continue, officials encourage residents to stay informed about safety advisories and to consider supporting ongoing relief initiatives. The combined donations from the Falcons, Colts, Pacers Sports & Entertainment and local businesses represent a significant financial boost for the Red Cross’s operations in the coming weeks.

Community leaders also emphasized the importance of preparedness for future weather events, urging families to develop emergency plans and maintain essential supplies. The recent flooding serves as a reminder of the region’s vulnerability to extreme weather and the need for coordinated response efforts.
