Athletics right-handed reliever Justin Sterner is done for the season after undergoing surgery on his right knee. Sterner, 29, underwent the operation in Los Angeles and also received a platelet-rich plasma injection.
Sterner was already on the 15-day injured list and last pitched in a game on July 17. He went 2-3 with a 6.12 ERA in 46 appearances, covering 42 2/3 innings, and struck out 40 but served up 11 homers.
