Ryan Lasko, a 24-year-old outfielder in the Athletics system, was injured during a game with Double-A Midland RockHounds after diving to catch a ball while playing center field. Lasko’s teammate, Devin Taylor, was also attempting to catch the ball, resulting in a collision that left Lasko on the ground.
Lasko fractured his C6-C7 vertebra and underwent spinal decompression and stabilization surgery. Despite the surgery, Lasko still doesn’t have feeling in his lower half due to swelling.
Athletics Manager Comments on Lasko’s Injury
Athletics manager Mark Kotsay expressed hope that Lasko would regain feeling in his lower half. Lasko is one of the Athletics’ top prospects, entering the season as the franchise’s No. 18 prospect.
