ASU System Board Approves $402.6 Million Budget and Tuition Rates for 2026-2027

The Arkansas State University System Board of Trustees has approved a $402.6 million operating budget for the 2026-2027 academic year, alongside new tuition and fee structures. This decision reflects the board’s commitment to maintaining quality education while addressing rising costs.

Budget Highlights

Interim System President Robin Myers emphasized the budget’s focus on retaining and recruiting employees and supporting new programs, such as the College of Veterinary Medicine at Arkansas State University. The budget also accounts for increased utility and insurance costs.

Each institution within the ASU System has specific budget allocations and tuition adjustments. Arkansas State University will see a 6.3% increase in its operating budget, reaching $251.4 million, with tuition and fees rising by 4% to $10,850 annually. Henderson State University will maintain its tuition and fees at $10,560, despite a 2.6% budget increase to $54.8 million.

Support for Faculty and Staff

Henderson State University faculty and staff will receive a $2,000 salary increase, marking their first positive compensation adjustment since 2019. This follows a period of financial challenges, including a 20% pay reduction and a 40% cut in retirement benefits. Chancellor Trey Berry expressed optimism about future improvements as enrollment trends continue to rise.

Enrollment and Program Growth

Henderson State University is experiencing significant growth, with a 38% increase in Heart Start orientation enrollment. The Arkansas Aviation Academy is welcoming 55 freshmen, while the band program is set to double in size. Additionally, the new track and field program anticipates 90 student-athletes this fall, surpassing its initial goal.

The university has also raised $6.7 million in private funding, the largest amount in a single year, thanks to contributions from 1,319 donors, including 605 new supporters.

Additional Board Decisions

The board approved several other measures, including a new Personnel Files Policy and the reorganization of the Department of Physical Therapy at A-State. A-State will also acquire property to enhance its campus borders and offer a new Certificate of Proficiency in Phlebotomy at ASU-Beebe.
