Armed Bystander Intervenes in Fatal In-N-Out Shooting

An armed bystander may have saved lives by distracting a gunman who opened fire at an In-N-Out Burger on Saturday, according to a witness. Lane Koehn, 34, witnessed the ordeal and described the shooter as “panicked” and moving “kind of erratically.” Koehn believes the armed bystander kept the gunman from shooting at more people.

Shooting Details

The shooter, identified as Chad Williams, 24, fatally shot himself. Three people were killed and seven others were injured, two of whom were in critical condition. An off-duty state trooper also engaged the shooter, returning gunfire and helping to drive the suspect away from the scene.

A retired EMT worker happened to be nearby and helped a victim with a gunshot wound to the chest. The employee, whose identity has not been released, was among those killed. In-N-Out Burger president Lynsi Snyder expressed condolences, stating that the employee was taking care of customers when their life was taken.

Investigation

The full circumstances of the shooting and a motive remained under investigation. The Twin Falls Police Department is receiving assistance from other agencies, including the FBI, which has created a digital tip line for members of the public to submit photos, videos, and audio recordings from the shooting.
