Two Arkansas search and rescue teams have been deployed to Texas as the state responds to severe and widespread flooding, the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management (ADEM) announced on Friday.
According to our ABC affiliate in Little Rock, KATV, officials say the deployment began on Thursday after Texas requested assistance through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC). “EMAC gives states the ability to support one another when it matters most, delivering critical resources where they’re needed,” said ADEM Director AJ Gary.
ADEM says that their teams will conduct search and rescue operations for stranded or at-risk individuals, provide emergency evacuations from inundated areas, and support local jurisdictions facing overwhelming water-related incidents.
They are currently assigned to a seven-day mission, though that may be extended depending on Texas’ evolving needs and ongoing flooding. “Emergency response knows no borders, and we are dedicated to working alongside Texas to provide the necessary assistance and resources,” Director Gary said.
