The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) has officially opened the application period for hunters interested in pursuing white-tailed deer on some of the state’s popular wildlife management areas (WMAs). The application window remains open until 11:59 p.m. on July 1, providing ample time for interested hunters to secure their spots for this fall’s permit-only hunts.
Permit Details and Application Process
The AGFC manages these WMAs to ensure healthy deer populations and maintain high-quality hunting experiences. To prevent overcrowding and overhunting, the Commission conducts special draw hunts on many of these areas. Hunters can apply online at the AGFC’s website, www.agfc.com, under the ‘Special Hunt Permits’ section.
Each application requires a $5 nonrefundable processing fee. Successful applicants will receive their permits without any additional charges. Hunters can submit one application for each type of permit hunt, which includes youth hunts, archery, alternative firearms (muzzleloader and straight-walled centerfire rifles), and modern gun hunts. Applicants must be at least six years old to apply for any WMA permit hunts.
Youth Hunts and Group Applications
Youth hunts are specifically designed for hunters aged 6 to 15. Applicants or their legal guardians must create a profile with the correct age to apply for a youth permit hunt. Additionally, hunters can apply as individuals or as a group of up to four. The party hunt leader applies first, receives a party hunt code, and shares it with up to three others. Applying as a group does not increase individual chances of being drawn.
