The Arizona Wildcats men’s golf team has successfully advanced to the final round of the NCAA Championships, held at the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California. The team shot an impressive 4-under par during Sunday’s third round, bringing their total score to -8 through 54 holes. This performance places them in a tie for fourth place, ensuring their progression to Monday’s fourth round.
Team Performance
Arizona’s strong showing on Sunday was led by Tianyi Xiong, who carded a 3-under 69. Zach Pollo contributed with a 1-under performance, while the remaining team members, including senior Filip Jakubcik, shot par. Jakubcik’s consistent play has kept him at -10 for the championship, just one stroke behind the individual leader, Preston Stout from Oklahoma State.
The Wildcats are aiming to reach the match play stage, a feat they have yet to accomplish since the format’s introduction in 2019. Currently, they are eight strokes ahead of ninth-place Oklahoma, which stands at even par through three rounds.
Looking Ahead
The top eight teams after Monday’s round will advance to match play, and Arizona is well-positioned to achieve this milestone. The individual champion will also be crowned following Monday’s fourth round of stroke play, with Jakubcik in strong contention for the title.
