Arizona Wildcats Await Koa Peat’s NBA Draft Decision for 2026-27 Season

The Arizona Wildcats men’s basketball team is on the brink of a pivotal decision as sophomore Koa Peat deliberates whether to enter the 2026 NBA Draft or return for another season. With a week left to decide, Peat’s choice will significantly impact the Wildcats’ strategy for the upcoming 2026-27 season.

Roster Preparations

Arizona has strategically prepared for both outcomes. Should Peat choose to stay, he would join fellow returnees Ivan Kharchenkov and Motiejus Krivas, both of whom were part of last year’s Final Four starting lineup. The team has left a spot open for Peat, indicating their hope for his return.

In anticipation of Peat potentially entering the draft, the Wildcats have assembled a 13-player roster. This includes key returnees from last year’s successful squad, such as guards Bryce James, Jackson Cook, and Addison Arnold, along with forward Mabil Mawut.

New Additions

The Wildcats have bolstered their roster with new talent primarily from the transfer portal. Notable additions include North Carolina guard Derek Dixon, Washington guard JJ Mandaquit, Idaho State center Evan Otte, and Nebraska forward Ugnius Jarusevicius. The team also welcomes German center Endurance Aiyamenkhue.

From the high school ranks, Caleb Holt, ranked No. 3 overall and the top shooting guard, is set to make his debut in Tucson. He will be joined by Cameron Holmes, the No. 12 overall shooting guard.

Challenges Ahead

Despite losing a significant portion of last season’s playing minutes, the Wildcats are poised to tackle the challenges of the upcoming season. With only 27.5 percent of last year’s minutes returning, new leaders will need to emerge.

The team’s nonconference schedule promises to be demanding, with games against UCLA in Las Vegas, a home match against Connecticut, participation in the Maui Invitational, and road games against Auburn and St. John’s. Additionally, the Wildcats will travel to Lithuania for a series of overseas games, which will serve as a crucial preparation phase.

The Wildcats’ ability to adapt and integrate new players will be critical as they aim to build on last year’s achievements and navigate the uncertainties surrounding Peat’s decision.
