Arizona begins preseason training camp with three nominees for major national awards. Seniors Taye Brown, Tristan Bounds, and Noah Fifita have made the preseason watch lists for awards given to the top college football players at various positions.
Awards and Recognition
Brown is one of 68 players on the watch list for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, given out by the Football Writers Association of America to the nation’s top defensive player. Bounds is among 68 on the watch list for the Outland Trophy, awarded by the FWAA for the country’s best lineman. Fifita, the reigning Big 12 First Team quarterback, is one of 81 players on the watch list for the Maxwell Award.
With 34 consecutive starts dating back to 2023, Fifita is Arizona’s single-season and career leader in touchdown passes and is set to become the UA’s all-time passing leader this fall. Arizona has never had a Maxwell but has twice had players claim the Nagurski Trophy and one win the Outland.
