Court documents reveal that social media messages, including Instagram DMs, played a key role in linking suspects to the deadly Arcadia Lake mass shooting that left 22 injured and one person dead.
Investigation Details
The Edmond Police Department arrested three more suspects in connection with the May 3 shooting, bringing the total to nine people. Search warrants detail how officers used social media messages to connect the suspects to the crime scene.
Instagram messages show that the suspects, who are believed to be gang members, intended to travel to Arcadia Lake to participate in the shooting. One suspect sent a message saying, ‘Let’s bump guns today it’s gone be nkaps at Lake Hefner an I got ride.’ Another suspect responded, ‘Okk henfer or arcadia.’ The first suspect then said, ‘Arcadia’ at about 6:30 p.m.
Another Instagram message from Marcus Kane Jones, who has already been charged in the case, said he was at Arcadia Lake and requested that others bring firearms. At 9:06 p.m., one minute before Edmond police were dispatched to the lake, he sent a message saying, ‘something was about to go down at the lake.’
After the shooting, messages detail that suspects knew police were likely looking for them in connection with the shooting. One suspect sent a picture of blood on his hand, as well as a video of a ‘Draco-style’ firearm.
