Apple has launched a new leasing program, allowing customers to lease iPhones, Macs, and other products instead of buying them outright. This move aims to make Apple products more affordable at a time when electronics prices are rising and consumers are holding onto devices longer.
Leasing Details
The leasing program, which is available in the United States, offers 12- or 24-month lease terms for iPhones and Apple Watches, and 24- or 36-month lease terms for Macs and iPads. The program is available through retail locations, online, and in the Apple Store app.
Eligible products include various Apple devices, although some of the cheaper options, such as the iPhone 16 and base iPad, are not part of the program. The cheapest iPhone leasing option starts at $17.99 per month.
This new leasing plan replaces the iPhone Upgrade Program, which allowed consumers to swap out iPhones after making 12 monthly payments. The new plan offers more flexibility in payment plans and lower monthly costs.
Market Analysis
Analysts expect Apple’s next batch of iPhones to cost more due to an ongoing memory shortage. The average user keeps their phone for 22 months, according to a survey last year from Reviews.org.
The leasing program could help consumers think about an iPhone or Mac as another subscription rather than a big-ticket purchase, according to Francisco Jeronimo, an analyst for market research firm International Data Corporation.
