Ankeny Centennial Softball Chases Iowa Home Run Record

The Ankeny Centennial softball team is on a home run streak, with 46 home runs in their first 18 games. Senior Kori Lincicum attributes their success to good hitting, saying home runs happen on accident.

Team Performance

At their current pace, Centennial is projected to hit over 90 home runs this year, surpassing the 61 home runs hit by Pleasant Valley in 2024. Minnesota commit Jordyn Kennedy leads the team with 11 home runs and is now 10 home runs away from Iowa’s career home run record held by former Centennial star Kendyl Lindaman.

Kennedy’s strategy is to attack early, taking advantage of any close pitches. The team’s success is not just due to Kennedy, as they have seven players committed to playing Division I softball.

Coach Brett Delaney is impressed with the team’s performance, joking that he’s glad he doesn’t have to pitch against them. The team’s home run celebrations have also gained attention, with unconventional props used to commemorate each home run.
