An eighth-grade student at Doherty Middle School in Andover, Massachusetts, has died after being pulled from a pond last month. Cody Nguyen was found in 10-12 feet of water, about 25 feet from shore, according to Andover police.
First responders began life-saving measures as soon as they put his body on a paddle board, and he was rushed first to Lawrence General Hospital, then airlifted to a Boston hospital.
The school district announced the boy’s death on Saturday, saying they are heartbroken by the loss and remain committed to supporting students, staff, and families. Social workers and guidance counselors will be available to the school community on Monday and Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Doherty Media Center.
