American Graduates Face Stiff Competition from Imported Workers

By OBBM Network Editorial Staff

Derived from an episode of The Andrew Branca Show.

Imagine spending years and thousands of dollars on education, only to find yourself competing with imported workers for entry-level jobs. This is the harsh reality faced by many American graduates today. The situation is further complicated by the fact that these imported workers often have a significant cost advantage due to their visa status, making them more attractive to employers.

Visa Revocations on the Rise

The State Department has recently revealed that it has revoked 175,000 visas since the start of President Trump’s second term, with the majority of these revocations being due to criminal activity. While this may seem like a step in the right direction, it does little to address the underlying issue of competition for jobs.

As Andrew Branca notes, ‘We’ve been giving you 60 days to find another job in America. Why is that the rule? The H-1B system is not supposed to serve Indians. The H-1B system is supposed to serve America’s national interest.’ This sentiment highlights the need for a more nuanced approach to immigration policy, one that prioritizes the needs of American citizens.

The Impact of H-1B Visas

The H-1B visa program is designed to allow foreign workers to fill jobs that cannot be filled by American citizens. However, the reality is that many of these jobs are not highly specialized, and American graduates are more than capable of filling them. The fact that H-1B visa holders are often cheaper to employ due to their tax status only adds to the problem.

According to Andrew Branca, ‘If you don’t know, OPT is a system that favors foreign nationals for entry-level jobs out of college over American citizens. Because the OPT foreigners, the migrants, the invaders, are free of federal taxation. 30% of tax that has to be paid between the employee and the employer for an American job holder doesn’t have to be paid for the foreign national under OPT, for which they apply right out of college, right from their student visa.’ This creates an unfair advantage for foreign workers, making it even harder for American graduates to compete.

A Broader Perspective

The issue of imported workers competing with American graduates is not just a matter of economics; it also has significant social implications. As families and students invest large sums of money and effort into education, the promise of better economic mobility is becoming increasingly elusive. The American dream, once a beacon of hope for generations, is slowly dying.

In conclusion, the current system of importing workers is having a profound impact on American graduates, exacerbating the competition for scarce jobs and creating an unfair advantage for foreign workers. It is essential that policymakers reexamine the H-1B visa program and other immigration policies to ensure that they serve the nation’s best interests.
