Amazon recall of over 200,000 toddler busy board toys due to choking risk

Parents across the country have been urged to remove a popular line of toddler busy board toys from their homes after the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) identified a serious safety defect. Esjay US is recalling roughly 276,000 units of its “Toddler Busy Board Montessori” series because the red knobs on the second page can detach, creating a small part that could be swallowed by children under three years old.

What the recall covers

The recalled busy boards are blue felt panels that feature carrying handles, elastic cords, button closures, cartoon dinosaurs on the front, and 26 alphabet squares paired with animal illustrations on the back. Each board has five pages; the second page contains the red knobs that have been found to separate from the board.

These toys were sold on Amazon.com from March 2023 through July 2026 at prices ranging from about $18 to $30. They were manufactured in China by Shenzhen Yishijie Technology Co., Ltd., which does business as Esjay US.

Safety concerns and official response

The CPSC determined that the detachable knobs violate the federal small‑parts ban, which prohibits toys intended for children under three from containing parts that could be swallowed. While no injuries or incidents have been reported to date, the agency warned that the risk of choking is potentially fatal.

Esjay US has offered a remedy to consumers: a replacement page that eliminates the hazardous knobs. The company advises parents to immediately stop using the toys and to remove them from the reach of children.

What parents should do

  • Check the product packaging for the model number and recall notice.
  • If you own a recalled busy board, cease use right away.
  • Contact Esjay US customer service for a free replacement page or to arrange a repair.
  • Dispose of any broken or missing parts safely, keeping them out of children’s reach.

Consumers can also report any concerns or questions to the CPSC’s hotline at 1‑800‑4‑CPSC (1‑800‑422‑7327) or visit the agency’s website for additional guidance.

Why recalls matter

Product recalls like this one underscore the importance of vigilant parental oversight and the role of federal safety agencies in protecting young families. By acting quickly to remove hazardous items from the market, the CPSC helps prevent tragedies before they occur.

Parents are encouraged to stay informed about product safety alerts, especially for items intended for children under three, and to regularly inspect toys for signs of wear or broken components.
