Alvin Campbell Jr. Guilty of 21 Charges

Alvin Campbell Jr., the older brother of Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell, was convicted on 21 of the 22 charges against him for sexually assaulting and attacking nine women between 2017 and 2019 in Boston.

Investigation and Trial

According to court records, Campbell would intentionally seek out young women late at night near bars and restaurants, posing as a rideshare driver. The case started to come together when a Boston woman woke up in Rhode Island with no memory of how she got there, leading detectives to find explicit videos on Campbell’s phone.

Campbell insisted that all of the encounters he had with the women in question were consensual, and his attorney argued that the videos will show consent, not assault. However, jurors found him guilty on most counts, with a mistrial being declared on one count of rape.

At the beginning of the trial, Andrea Joy Campbell said, “I am praying for the survivors and all those affected. It takes extraordinary courage to come forward, and they deserve dignity and respect.”

Campbell will learn his fate at a sentencing hearing on June 29. Resources for victims of sexual assault are available through the National Sexual Violence Resources Center and the National Sexual Assault Telephone Hotline at 800-656-4673, and Massachusetts provides this list of statewide and resources for sexual assault survivors.
