Albuquerque woman appears in court on child endangerment charges after viral road‑rage video

Albuquerque police brought a local woman before a judge on Friday after a video of her smashing a white pickup truck with a baseball bat went viral online. The incident occurred at approximately 8:45 a.m. near the intersection of Constitution Avenue and Wyoming Boulevard, NE.

Charges and custody status

Jenifer Lewis, who was seen exiting her vehicle and striking the pickup, was arrested and charged with child endangerment because her children were seated in the back seat at the time of the assault. Additional charges include reckless driving and driving with a suspended or revoked license.

Lewis appeared in court wearing an orange jumpsuit. The judge ordered that she remain in custody until her next hearing, where a decision will be made on whether she will stay behind bars through the trial phase.

Investigation continues

Police have not yet identified the driver of the white pickup involved in the confrontation. The vehicle was observed without a visible license plate, and investigators are still searching for the individual.

The viral video, which quickly spread across social‑media platforms, has prompted public concern about road safety and the safety of children in vehicles. Law‑enforcement officials emphasized that the charges reflect both the violent act and the presence of minors in the car.

Legal process

Under New Mexico law, child endangerment charges can carry significant penalties, especially when the alleged conduct endangers the welfare of a minor. The upcoming hearing will determine whether Lewis will be held without bail pending trial, a decision that typically weighs factors such as flight risk and public safety.

Albuquerque police continue to request information from the public that might help locate the pickup driver. Anyone with relevant details is urged to contact the department.

Community response

Local residents expressed a mix of shock and concern after viewing the video. Some parents highlighted the importance of parental responsibility and the need for law‑enforcement to protect children from dangerous situations on the road.

The case underscores the broader issue of road‑rage incidents and the potential legal consequences when minors are present. Authorities remind drivers that reckless behavior not only endangers themselves but also any passengers, especially children.
