Registration for Albuquerque’s before- and after-school programs has begun, with officials emphasizing that spots can fill up quickly. Most of the city’s community centers, recreation sites, and some elementary schools will offer the programs, which may include school pickup and drop-off. Kids can expect to play games and sports, do crafts, have time for homework, and eat dinner. After paying a $10 registration fee, all other program services are free.

According to Therese Chavez, recreation program and facility manager, the after-school programs and before-school programs have grown significantly, especially due to the supervisors’ hard work in arranging transportation to each of the schools they serve. Registration opened at 8 a.m. on Monday.
