Wildland crews contain bosque fire near South Valley Little League fields
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Fire responders contained a bosque blaze in the South Valley Friday afternoon after it consumed roughly one acre and involved a sizable cottonwood tree near the area of the Little League fields.
Officials say the Wildland Task Force arrived on scene shortly after 3:30 p.m. The fire was burning in the bosque just south of Avenida Dolores Huerta on the river’s east side, a location that places it close to community recreation areas.
Crews were able to bring the fire under control by about 4:30 p.m. and then continued with mop-up operations to ensure hot spots were extinguished. Both Albuquerque Fire Rescue personnel and New Mexico Forestry crews remained at the site to cut down hazardous trees and reduce the chance of rekindling.
No injuries have been reported from the incident. Investigators are still working to determine what sparked the fire, and officials have not released a cause.
The fire’s proximity to public fields highlighted how quickly desert and riverside vegetation can ignite and spread. Responders emphasized the importance of caution around open flames and discarded smoking materials in and near bosque areas to help prevent similar incidents.
