A traffic improvement plan for Alamo Ranch Parkway between 1604 and Calaveras Way is estimated to cost $80 million, according to Bexar County Public Works Interim Director David Wegmann. The plan aims to alleviate traffic congestion by adding overpasses and expanding the main lanes to six lanes.
Project Details
The existing lanes will act as frontage roads, and the main lanes will be built with overpasses over major intersections. The goal is to allow drivers to use the overpasses to avoid traffic lights and pass through the area more quickly.
Homeowner Corrine Malapolsky expressed her support for the project, stating that traffic in the area is currently ‘horrible’ and that she and her husband are looking forward to the improvements. However, she did express concern about the potential noise impact of the construction.
Construction and Funding
Construction is expected to begin in the winter of 2027 and run through the winter of 2030, with the Alamo Regional Mobility Authority funding the project. The authority gets its funding from a $10 new vehicle registration fee approved in 2014.
Wegmann addressed concerns about traffic during the construction process, stating that the existing lanes will remain open and act as the future frontage road, minimizing the impact on traffic.
