University of Alabama men’s basketball guard Aden Holloway is taking steps to resolve legal issues stemming from a March arrest. Holloway has entered a pre-trial diversion program as part of a plea agreement, which could lead to the dismissal of his case if he fulfills all the program’s requirements.
Details of the Arrest
Holloway was arrested by the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force after a search of a residence on 30th Avenue East in Tuscaloosa revealed marijuana and other items. Agents found marijuana in various locations, including a vacuum-sealed bag, and other paraphernalia such as a rolling tray and packaging materials. Promethazine, a prescription medication not in Holloway’s name, was also discovered.
In Holloway’s bedroom, agents reported finding marijuana in a backpack and suitcase, as well as U.S. currency and a rolling tray under the bed. Additional marijuana was found in a spare bedroom. The total amount of marijuana recovered weighed about 964 grams, or roughly 2.1 pounds, and lacked a tax stamp.
Plea Agreement and Program Requirements
Following his arrest, Holloway was suspended from the basketball team. He was indicted on April 10 on two felony charges for possession of marijuana and failure to affix tax stamps, along with two misdemeanors for possession of prescription pills and drug paraphernalia.
Under the plea agreement filed on May 29, Holloway has pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana and prescription drugs. The diversion program requires him to complete 50 hours of community service, pay $1,300, and pass random drug and alcohol screenings. Holloway also submitted a letter of apology. Successful completion of these requirements could result in youthful offender status and dismissal of his case, avoiding a conviction on his record.
