Leonora Hall, a historic residence in Highland Square, Akron, is scheduled to be auctioned off from July 13 to July 15. The property, which was once home to nuns and seniors, has been closed since last fall due to financial constraints.

History of Leonora Hall

Leonora Hall was built in 1946 by the Daughters of Divine Charity as a residence for women. Over the years, it has served as a semi-independent living facility, providing meals and supportive services to its residents. At the time of its closure, the residence housed around 30 residents, including staff, and charged approximately $1,000 to $1,100 per month.

A former resident, Marc Cook, expressed his hopes for the property’s future, stating, ‘I hope someone buys it and provides a productive use to it, whether it’s another senior living place or some type of community outreach center.’

Auction Details

The auction will be conducted online through Ten-X, with an opening bid of $700,000. The property includes 139,362 square feet of space and has been marketed as a potential redevelopment opportunity.

Senior Pastor Mike Murphy of Prevail Church had attempted to discuss potential investment opportunities with the Daughters of Divine Charity but was unable to reach them. Murphy had hoped to keep the residents in place during a transition, making the facility more attractive to potential buyers.
