Airlines are investing a lot in airplane interiors to make sure travelers are happy, even if they are flying on planes that are decades old. This includes brand-new interiors, such as seats, sidewalls, and inflight entertainment.
Airplane Maintenance
Airplanes can fly safely for up to 45 years, but airlines still invest in maintenance to keep them in good condition. For example, United Airlines has a fleet of Boeing 767s that feature the latest cabin comfort experiences, even though some of the planes are from 1991.
According to Nathaniel Pieper, chief commercial officer of American Airlines, airplanes are built to last. “Nobody’s going to know what the hull says,” he said. This means that airlines can focus on making the interior of the plane comfortable and enjoyable for passengers, without worrying about the age of the plane itself.
