Airline executives are warning planemakers Boeing and Airbus not to rush out a new generation of commercial jets without ensuring their technology is mature enough. Paul Kent, chief commercial officer at BOC Aviation, expressed concerns about introducing new aircraft too quickly, citing the need for programs to run for a considerable number of years to achieve overall economic viability.
Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary also warned against overfocusing on new technology, suggesting that current models, such as the 737 Max and Airbus Neo, will remain in use for the next 10 to 15 years. However, British Airways Chief Executive Sean Doyle expressed interest in whatever Airbus is developing.
