As Agoura Hills looks to establish its own downtown, big changes are coming to the area around Whizin Market Square on Roadside Drive. The Regency Center, a new development across the street, will bring 278 new apartments to the neighborhood, with occupancy anticipated in August 2027.
New Development and Park Project
The four-story building will include 1,000 square feet of commercial space, expected to house a coffee shop, while the former FedEx building on the site will likely host two restaurants. Just south of Whizin, the city will cut the ribbon on the Ladyface Greenway, its long-awaited first park south of the 101 Freeway, transforming an open concrete runoff channel into a landscaped strip with paths for pedestrians, cyclists, and horseback riders.
Bill Tucker, president of Calabasas-based Tucker Investment Group, owner of the Whizin center since 2006, welcomes the new development. "My niche has always been what I call pedestrian-friendly environments," Tucker said. "We think it's going to add customers coming to the center."
Whizin Market Square History
Whizin Market Square has a long history, dating back to 1954 when Art Whizin bought the land adjacent to Route 101. The center has undergone many changes over the years, including the addition of a rodeo arena, a dirt motorcycle track, and a concert venue. Today, the center is fully leased for the first time ever, with a mix of restaurants, art and clothing stores, antique galleries, and curio shops.
Tucker has been working to integrate his property with the new park, adding storefronts along the south side of the center that would allow some tenants to attract parkgoers by providing direct access to their businesses. "We try to identify tenants that we think would be a good fit in the community, and I think it's paid off," he said.
