Actor Tyler Mane, known for his role as Sabretooth in the 2000 movie ‘X-Men’, has revealed that he has been diagnosed with a rare form of breast cancer. Mane, 59, announced the news on Instagram, saying he will be undergoing chemotherapy.
Raising Awareness
Mane’s diagnosis is a rare occurrence, with only 1% of breast cancers affecting men. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about one in 100 cases of breast cancers diagnosed in the United States is in men. Mane is speaking out to raise awareness about the importance of early detection and to reduce the stigma surrounding male breast cancer.
Mane initially thought to keep his diagnosis a secret but eventually decided to speak out. He said, ‘I have some bad news: I start chemo today. One in 750 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime and I’m one of them.’ He also included a brief clip of himself in hospital, hooked up to an IV, and raised his middle finger, saying ‘[expletive] cancer.’
Mane’s wife played a crucial role in his diagnosis, pushing him to get a lump removed, which led to the discovery of the cancer. He emphasized the importance of early detection, saying, ‘I found out that men are more likely to be diagnosed in advance stages BECAUSE it’s not talked about and not looked for.’
