West Hollywood – On Thursday night, Oct. 8, around 9:05 p.m., Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a robbery call in the 8400 block of Santa Monica Boulevard. The victim was actor Keegan Allen, known for his role as Toby Cavanaugh on “Pretty Little Liars.”
According to the sheriff’s office, two men dressed in black approached Allen. One pointed a silver handgun at him while the other brandished a knife, demanding his watch and bracelet. The suspect with the handgun struck Allen in the face, causing a laceration to his forehead. The assailants seized the watch and fled in a vehicle.
Fire‑department personnel arrived and evaluated Allen at the scene. He was not transported to a hospital, and deputies took his statement. Later, Allen posted a graphic video on Instagram showing blood streaming down his face and clothing, describing the attack as a “depths of hell” experience.
Actor’s response and criticism of public‑safety measures
In his Instagram caption, Allen wrote, “West Hollywood is not safe anymore. Robbed at gunpoint and knifepoint by two young men that threatened to KILL me over my watch and would have! God said no tonight. My life for a watch.” He added that he felt fortunate to be alive.
Allen also shared surveillance footage that appeared to show the masked suspects confronting him outside Laurel Supply, a luxury grocery store in the area. He used the platform to criticize the city’s reliance on “flock cameras” championed by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and California Governor Gavin Newsom, questioning whether those cameras will actually help catch dangerous criminals.
“Will update more soon. Let’s hope all these flock cameras that (Karen Bass), (Gavin Newsom) and everyone thinks will stop crime can find these very dangerous criminals. God bless,” Allen wrote.
Law‑enforcement investigation
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the incident and is actively investigating. No arrests have been reported at the time of this writing. The department is reviewing the surveillance video and seeking any witnesses who may have seen the suspects or the getaway vehicle.
West Hollywood police have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. The city’s public‑safety officials have reiterated their commitment to increasing patrols in the area, though the effectiveness of additional surveillance technology remains a point of debate among community members.
