It has been a banner week for Arkansas State University and the Jonesboro community, with two pieces of genuinely exciting news coming out of the Hill.
First, Arkansas State’s Exercise Science programs have received an official STEM designation, a significant academic milestone that recognizes the rigorous, science-driven nature of the curriculum. The designation is a mark of distinction that can open new doors for A-State students, including expanded opportunities for Optional Practical Training for international graduates and a stronger signal to employers and graduate programs that A-State’s Exercise Science graduates are trained in the quantitative and scientific disciplines that define STEM fields. For a university that continues to grow its academic reputation across northeast Arkansas and beyond, this recognition is a proud step forward.
Then, on the athletic front, the Red Wolves gave Jonesboro fans plenty to cheer about as Arkansas State volleyball opened Sun Belt Conference play in emphatic fashion, defeating the University of Louisiana Monroe 3-0. A clean sweep in a conference opener sets a confident tone for the rest of the Sun Belt schedule and gives the program early momentum heading deeper into the fall season. Red Wolf fans packed the stands to support their team, and the squad delivered in a big way.
Together, these two stories reflect what makes Jonesboro such a vibrant community — a university that is raising the bar academically while also giving its hometown something to rally around on game day. Whether you are a student looking at a future in health and human performance sciences or a fan who lives and breathes Red Wolf athletics, this week offered something to celebrate on the Hill.
Congratulations to the A-State Exercise Science faculty, staff, and students on earning the STEM designation, and to the Red Wolves volleyball team on a strong Sun Belt Conference debut. Here’s to more good news ahead for Jonesboro and Arkansas State.
