Demolition of the Montgomery Boulevard bridge in Albuquerque will completely close northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 25 for five days starting as early as June 28. The New Mexico Department of Transportation is warning drivers to expect significant delays and to plan ahead.
Detour Information
Drivers will be detoured off the interstate and onto the Pan American Frontage Road at the Montgomery Boulevard off-ramps. An alternate route will detour traffic to Comanche Road through Carlisle Boulevard and Jefferson Street on the east side of I-25. On the west side of I-25, traffic will be detoured via Culture Drive and Edith Boulevard.
The construction project aims to revamp ramps, improve pathways for pedestrians and cyclists, and install advanced U-turns. The new U-turns will allow drivers to enter a dedicated lane before the intersection, loop under the bridge, and merge onto the opposite side of the road without stopping at the main intersection lights.
