Ristorante Bergamo, the oldest restaurant in downtown Greenville, is relocating to the West End after 40 years. The restaurant, currently located at the corner of Coffee and North Main streets, will move to 942 S. Main St., across the street from Fluor Field.
A New Chapter
The decision to move was made by owners Gian Pietro and Kathleen Ferro after their landlord decided to sell the current space. The couple had expected the decision but chose not to purchase the building. Instead, they sought a larger space, with the new location accommodating about 75 seats, compared to the current 50.
The restaurant has remained true to its roots, serving authentic northern Italian food. Gian Pietro Ferro, the chef and owner, prides himself on cooking traditional dishes from his hometown of Bergamo, Italy. The restaurant’s commitment to its heritage has made it a staple in the Greenville community.
The new location will feature an open kitchen concept, allowing customers to watch the chefs cook. The restaurant will also have a chef’s table at the front of the kitchen, where customers can sit and enjoy their meals.
Ristorante Bergamo will close temporarily as it transitions to the new location. The exact reopening date has not been determined, but the owners hope to be back in business within a month.
