Snarls, a local band, has released a new EP titled In Heaven There’s Rainbows. The EP explores themes of healing and self-discovery, with the band members drawing from their personal experiences.
Background
The band members, Chlo White, Riley Hall, and Mick Martinez, met with recording engineer Joe Camerlengo to discuss their vision for the EP. They wanted to capture a ‘sexy rock band’ vibe while incorporating new tones and textures.
The EP’s opening track, ‘Chemical Control (Spill Your Blood)’, sets the tone with its vocoder-treated vocals and gleaming chorus. Other songs, such as ‘One Wish’, acknowledge the challenges of modern existence while offering infectious and uplifting melodies.
Themes and Inspiration
The band’s words tend to be more fractured, documenting the ways people can reshape themselves into something new and beautiful after having fallen to pieces. This theme is reflective of the band’s evolution over the past couple of years, during which they have faced personal struggles and come out stronger.
The EP’s closing track, ‘What’s Inside of Me’, is a reflective turn that finds the singer lingering on the scars left behind. The song emerged from a stretch of introspection, written last fall as the singer confronted the parts of herself that she felt ‘most uncomfortable knowing’.
