A violent series of events unfolded in Osceola County when Christian Rivera, 21, allegedly rammed a vehicle carrying his ex-girlfriend, Sanchez, and opened fire on the vehicle, shooting her through the passenger side window.
Incident Details
According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, Rivera began following and chasing a white Mitsubishi driven by Deriel Rodriguez Martinez shortly after 11 p.m. on June 8. Rivera was behind the wheel of a blue BMW when he intentionally struck the Mitsubishi, causing it to lose control and collide with an Osceola County patrol car.
Rivera fled the scene and drove onto Florida’s Turnpike, reaching speeds of approximately 100 mph. He eventually drove to his father’s home in St. Cloud, where the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was later recovered.
Sanchez remains hospitalized after suffering a gunshot wound to her right hip and multiple injuries to her face. In a 911 call, Sanchez reported that she had been shot three times.
Previous Abuse Allegations
During interviews with Sanchez, investigators learned she ended her relationship with Rivera about two weeks before the incident after he allegedly pointed a gun at her. Deputies also uncovered allegations of previous abuse during the relationship, including instances where Rivera would choke Sanchez to the point where she couldn’t breathe and slap her in the face.
