Former Vice President Mike Pence expressed concerns about the Iran Memorandum of Understanding signed by President Donald Trump, stating it ‘smacks of the kind of appeasement’ Trump rejected in his first term.
Pence’s Concerns
Pence characterized the agreement as ‘a plan to make a plan’ and argued it does not meet the requirements to end the Iranian threat. He emphasized that ‘maximum pressure worked’ and the blockade was effective in bringing Iran to the negotiating table.
Pence suggested that the 60-day period following the agreement should be used to secure an end to Iran’s nuclear ambitions, Iranian-backed terror, and its half-century of warfare against the U.S. and Israel. If these goals cannot be achieved, Pence recommended letting the armed forces ‘finish the job.’
