Brad Lord, a former University of South Florida pitcher, is making a name for himself with the Washington Nationals. Lord recently struck out five in three shutout innings in Washington’s 4-3 victory over the Rays at Tropicana Field.
Local Connection
Lord, a native of Crawfordville, Florida, began his career at Gulf Coast College in Mississippi before returning to the Sunshine State to play at Santa Fe College in Gainesville. He then transferred to the University of South Florida, where he finished his collegiate career with 123 strikeouts in as many innings during his two seasons under Billy Mohl.
Among the highlights of Lord’s time with the Bulls was throwing six scoreless innings in an elimination game against Tulane in the 2021 American Conference tournament. He then sparkled in relief against Texas in the Super Regional in Austin. A year later, he completed his time at USF and earned a criminology degree.
MLB Success
Lord was selected by the Nationals in the 18th round of the 2022 draft. He made his major league debut on April 8, 2025, and struck out Shohei Ohtani for his first MLB strikeout. Lord has been operating exclusively out of the bullpen this season and has compiled impressive numbers, including a 5-0 mark, 2.29 ERA, and 1.00 WHIP.
