Two additional tornadoes have been confirmed to have touched down in Northern Kentucky during Thursday’s storms, bringing the total to five in the Greater Cincinnati area. The National Weather Service confirmed the two new tornadoes on Saturday morning, one near Florence and the other in Grant County.
Tornado Details
The Florence tornado, classified as an EF1, occurred between 12:34 a.m. and 12:46 a.m. and reached speeds of up to 100 miles per hour. It formed in a residential neighborhood near Oakbrook and carved a 6.1-mile path to the east before dissipating in Erlanger. Numerous trees were knocked down, and damage to homes and power lines was observed.
The Grant County tornado’s details are still being investigated, including its wind speed and the extent of the damage. Three other tornadoes had previously been confirmed in the area, including one in Franklin County, Indiana, and another near Maysville, Kentucky.
Across the Midwest, over a dozen other tornadoes have been confirmed as part of the same storm system, affecting Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, and other parts of Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky.
