Challenges Ahead
The USGA has promised not to let the course get out of control like it did in 2018, but the forecast suggests strong winds and dry conditions, which could make the course more challenging. Xander Schauffele and Matt Fitzpatrick are tied for second place at 137, along with Sam Stevens and Tom Kim. Rory McIlroy is at even-par 140, and he believes that he still has a chance to catch up with Clark.
The cut was made at 143, and several big names, including Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm, missed it. Joaquin Niemann had a remarkable day, making a 9 on one hole and then shooting 65 in the second round to make the cut.
