Trump’s Change of Heart

Trump initially endorsed Evette, saying she had his “Complete and Total Endorsement.” However, after Evette failed to win the primary outright, Trump expanded his endorsement to include Wilson. Wilson has gained momentum in the race, with several candidates who did not make the runoff throwing their support behind him.

Evette still boasts the support of term-limited Gov. Henry McMaster, a close friend of Trump. The presidential pivot in South Carolina comes after two of his endorsed candidates lost in recent primaries.

Reaction from the Candidates

Wilson quickly changed his social media profile to note Trump’s support for his campaign. “I’ve proudly stood with President Trump from the very beginning, defended him when others would not, and fought alongside him against the radical left,” Wilson said in a news release. Evette also commented on the endorsement, saying she was proud to come in first as Trump’s endorsed candidate and looking forward to doing it again on June 23rd.
