Kelley Clem, a hospice nurse with three decades of experience, has witnessed numerous end-of-life visions. One of her earliest experiences was with a 7-year-old boy who, while lying unconscious in his bed, suddenly lifted his arms into the air and then curved them as if embracing someone.
A Personal Experience
Clem’s most profound experience, however, was with her own 84-year-old mother, who had been unresponsive for days. The day before she passed away, Clem’s mother suddenly opened her eyes, sat upright, and spoke clearly, asking her family to leave the room because she was not ready to go yet. Clem believes that her mother’s vision was a calming confirmation of her Christian faith.
As a practicing Catholic, Clem has always found comfort in the idea that there is an afterlife. Her experiences as a hospice nurse have only strengthened her faith, and she believes that these end-of-life visions are a gift to both the patients and their families.
