The city of Clermont is experiencing significant growth, and efforts are underway to increase the residential footprint of Downtown Clermont and make it more walkable.
The Lumberyard Project
The Lumberyard, a roughly 12-acre new district, is taking shape on old industrial land just west of the city’s core. Atlanta-based developer PENLER is in charge of the first phase, which includes 262 apartment units and 55,000 square feet of mixed-use commercial and residential space in the second phase.
Patrick Bianchi, President of Clermont Main Street and a business owner in Downtown Clermont, is hopeful the project will bring added foot traffic to businesses and cater to a community of people who desire walkability. Clermont Main Street is working with the city as it redevelops its comprehensive plan, focusing on creating a bike/pedestrian/golf cart-friendly environment.
Florida-Native Landscaping
Another downtown project features Florida-native landscaping, the largest Florida landscape design and implementation in any streetscape in the state. The hope is that, as Clermont grows in population, so will the number of residents who want to support small, local businesses.
