The Sunset District in San Francisco has seen a mix of break-ins and new business openings. Tadaima, a Japanese sando and matcha spot, was broken into twice since its opening in February. The first break-in occurred on April 25, with thieves smashing the storefront’s glass door and stealing the safe and cash register. The second break-in happened recently, with thieves shattering the door again and stealing the safe and register.
Community Support
Despite the break-ins, Tadaima’s owner, J.L., has seen an outpouring of support from the community. The police are currently investigating whether the second break-in was done by the same group of people as the first. J.L. has decided not to accept cash payments due to the break-ins and is considering installing a better security system.
In other news, Willow on the Green, a British-centric cheese shop, is closing its doors due to changes in the neighborhood. The shop’s owner, Alex J. Sinclair, cited the closure of a UCSF research center and the JFK Drive shutdown as factors that led to fewer customers. However, Sinclair plans to continue selling cheese and is involved in various other projects, including the Caledonian Club and the British Benevolent Society.
New Businesses
Welcome Coffee & Goods is set to open in July, with an espresso machine already installed. The coffee shop aims to provide a cozy atmosphere for customers. Other new businesses in the area include Maggie & Mac’s, which opened on June 5 and has been busy serving French dip sandwiches, and Jandii, a cafe with a soft opening on Tuesday. Marcel’s Cafe is taking a short pause, but the owner promises to come back with something even better.
CSK Kitchen, which sells grab-and-go Japanese food, opened on June 6 and has added a bench for customers to relax. The owner, Chika Kuramoto, aims to provide authentic and reasonably priced Japanese food to the community.
