Rogers Schools Offer Free Summer Meals

Rogers Public Schools is offering free summer meals to kids in the area. The program, which runs through July 31, provides free breakfast and lunch to all kids, regardless of whether they attend school in Rogers.

Meal Locations and Times

There are 10 meal sites located throughout Rogers, with breakfast available from 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. at Northside Elementary School and Rogers Heritage High School. Lunch is available from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at six locations, including Northside Elementary School, Rogers Heritage High School, Frank Tillery Elementary School, Westside Elementary School, Reagan Elementary School, and Eastside Elementary School.

The district also offers meals at two mobile sites: 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at Park at Lupine Way and 12:15 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Ward Nail Park in Lowell.

According to Superintendent Jeff Perry, the program has already served about 700 students a day since it began on June 1, and he expects that number to increase throughout the summer.

Perry noted that more than 60% of students in Rogers participate in the free and reduced lunch program during the school year, and the district hopes to bridge that gap during the summer months.

“School is not just a place where you’re educated, we actually try to deal with the holistic nature of the child,” Perry said. “If you don’t take care of those basic needs, safety and food and shelter, students are not going to be able to be educated. And so with all of us, none of us are at our best when we’re hungry. None of us are at our best when we’re afraid.”
