Obama Remains Most Popular Living President

A recent CNN poll conducted by SSRS has found that former President Barack Obama is viewed positively by 57% of Americans, surpassing the ratings of his successors, President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden. This poll highlights Obama’s enduring popularity, with a significant lead over Trump, who is viewed favorably by 34% of the public, and Biden, who has a favorability rating of 30%.

Comparing Presidential Favorability Ratings

The poll also reveals that Obama’s standing among political independents is more than twice as high as either Biden’s or Trump’s. Furthermore, Obama has the near-universal backing of his own party, with only about one-fifth of Republicans taking a positive view of him. In contrast, views of former presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton are more divided, with 42% and 33% favorable ratings, respectively.

The poll’s findings suggest a generational shift in Americans’ historical memory, with an increasing share of the public coming of age politically in the Trumpian era of politics. When asked which president they most admire, Americans largely favored relatively recent names, with 30% naming Obama, 19% naming Trump, and 9% naming Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan.
