The Barasch & McGarry Charitable Foundation has launched the September 11th Descendants Scholarship Program to support graduating high school seniors whose families have lost a loved one to a 9/11-related illness. This initiative recognizes a generation of young people who have grown up in the shadow of a loss they may not have fully understood when it first occurred.
Eligibility and Application
The Foundation will award scholarships to students who graduated from high school in 2026 and have been accepted to an accredited college, university, vocational school, or trade program. Applicants do not need to be clients of Barasch & McGarry to be eligible. As part of the application process, students are asked to submit a short essay describing how the loss of their loved one and their family’s experience with 9/11-related illness has shaped their values, resilience, goals, and commitment to their communities.
Applications are open through June 30, 2026. Recipients will be selected by an independent review committee and notified by August 3, 2026. Additional information about eligibility requirements and application materials can be found at the Foundation’s website.
