Knicks Celebrate NBA Title with Ticker-Tape Parade

New York City is celebrating the Knicks’ NBA championship win with a classic ticker-tape parade. The team’s victory, which ended a 53-year drought, has electrified New Yorkers. Mayor Zohran Mamdani predicted that the parade might be one of the biggest in the city’s history.

Parade Details

The parade started at 10 a.m. near Battery Park and headed up Broadway on the skyscraper-flanked route dubbed the ‘Canyon of Heroes.’ The procession ended at City Hall, where the players received keys to the city. Knicks legends Walt ‘Clyde’ Frazier and Patrick Ewing participated in the parade, along with singer Alicia Keys.

Police deployed 10,000 officers to secure the event, following ebullient but sometimes chaotic street celebrations and some violence during the Knicks’ run to victory. Sanitation workers were assigned to clean up the expected debris.

Ticker-tape parades have a long history in New York City, dating back to the late 19th century. The city has hosted 209 parades before this one, including a recent parade for the WNBA’s New York Liberty in 2024.
